A to Z April Challenge: L is for Lamps

This is a continuation of LAST APRIL’s challenge about HEIRLOOMS. When my sister and I cleaned out our parents’ home, we had to make many decisions about what to do with all the stuff. Which things are truly “valuable” and which have only sentiment in their favor? Should we sell it, keep it, or throw it away? To help ensure a future for our family’s heirlooms, I plan to leave a booklet for my daughters telling the stories of what they will inherit one day. (Not TOO soon, I hope!)

is for Lamps, cut lead crystal lamps to be more specific. I was the lucky one to get these two beauties after our parents passed. Momma inherited them from our grandaunt Violetta Davis Ryan.

The black crystal and brass are just beautiful. Since I know nothing of their history, please just enjoy the pictures.

I have another set of “crystal” lamps on the nightstands in the bedroom.

Girls, if you are reading this one day, please note that THESE lamps are nothing special. They are cute, but they came from either Lowes or Home Depot, can’t recall which.

And this is why it is important to have a booklet to help them tell the difference between the good stuff and the junk. I have to admit that sometimes the “junk” holds more sentimental value.

    1. I must shop at the wrong places - I seem never to find anything except what deserves to be in a thrift shop.

    1. I often wonder how people got rid of things "back in the day" before yard sales and thrift shops.

  6. The black crystal bases are unusual. Don't you find that the family heirlooms you treasure often have no real financial value. And like my mate TravelGenee I noticed the doilies too.

    1. Ha - yes! Whenever I think something is great, then I learn it's going for $5 on eBay.

    1. Why thanks. I'm sure I have more "junk" than good stuff.
