This is a continuation of LAST APRIL’s challenge about
HEIRLOOMS. When my sister and I cleaned out our parents’ home, we had to make
many decisions about what to do with all the stuff. Which things are truly
“valuable” and which have only sentiment in their favor? Should we sell it,
keep it, or throw it away? To help ensure a future for our family’s heirlooms,
I plan to leave a booklet for my daughters telling the stories of what they
will inherit one day. (Not TOO soon, I hope!)
is for Lamps, cut lead crystal lamps to be more
specific. I was the lucky one to get these two beauties after our parents
passed. Momma inherited them from our grandaunt Violetta Davis Ryan.
The black crystal and brass are just beautiful. Since I know
nothing of their history, please just enjoy the pictures.
I have another set of “crystal” lamps on the nightstands
in the bedroom.

....and then there are the doilys under the lamps and glassware however we are past the letter D so we will not know if there is a story with these this time.
ReplyDeleteActually, I did DOILY last year, but have not written about my pink Depression glass. https://jollettetc.blogspot.com/2018/04/a-to-z-april-challenge-d-is-for-doily.html

Well, hey! What beautiful quilts are you doing this year? I'm off to find out.
DeleteI love hitting the second hand and antique stores looking for interesting (and heavy) old lamps!

I must shop at the wrong places - I seem never to find anything except what deserves to be in a thrift shop.
DeleteWondering what happened to my grandmother's lamps.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder how people got rid of things "back in the day" before yard sales and thrift shops.
DeleteThe black crystal bases are unusual. Don't you find that the family heirlooms you treasure often have no real financial value. And like my mate TravelGenee I noticed the doilies too.
ReplyDeleteHa - yes! Whenever I think something is great, then I learn it's going for $5 on eBay.
DeleteWhat a great theme you've chosen for the A to Z. Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteThank-you. And thanks for visiting and commenting.
DeleteBeautiful Lead crystal Lamps. The "junk" is pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteWhy thanks. I'm sure I have more "junk" than good stuff.
DeleteL, indeed for lovely lamps. I am enjoying your collection of heirlooms. I hope your descendants will treasure them too.
