On the last page of the photo album belonging to my great grandmother Mary Frances Jollett Davis is this poem written on the occasion of my great-grandfather Walter Davis’s death 80 years ago today.
The poem was written by Mary Frances’s sister Sallie Catherine Clift.

A sweet remembrance--and how carefully your great grandmother kept it! Eighty years doesn't sound as long a time as it once did...
ReplyDeleteI know! When I look back on the "old" people I remember dying when I was a child, I realize now they were my age. YIKES!
DeleteOh. What a sweet poem. Your great-grandfather must have been a wonderful man.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Sallie had a special fondness for him since he must have come to her rescue numerous times during her very troubled marriage. He also testified on her behalf when she filed for a divorce.
DeleteWhat a touching poem. You seriously have the most wonderful collection Wendy. It makes them all so real.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sweet poem, isn't it ~
DeleteLast page? Now what? I love the poem - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, her album is a mess with pictures falling out of the place holders. It's actually a wonder we even spied this poem. It's not like your grandmother's album.
