This week's Sepia Saturday theme is dogs. Wouldn’t I be the champ if I had a picture to prove that at age what? 2? 3? 4? I lined the neighborhood dogs up on the porch steps and taught school. The dogs looked forward to it. Really, they did. You should have seen the looks on their faces.
But since there is no record of that marvelous feat, I offer you the story of Fritz, my mother’s childhood pet.

Fritz was the son of a circus dog. My grandparents got Fritz when the circus came to town. I guess Ma Fritz felt the circus life was no way to raise a pup.
Fritz lived a long time, long enough to become a nuisance by biting people on the ankle. One day when Grandma was working in the Davis Store, (you can read about the store HERE ) Effie Helton came in. Effie was a BIG woman who played for the men’s baseball team. Fritz bit her ankle and Effie returned fire with a swift kick. Grandma then kicked Effie out of the store. "Love me, love my dog."
