Wordless Wednesday is a daily
prompt at Geneabloggers that asks family historians to create a post in which
the main focus is a photograph or image.
my maternal grandparents Lucille and Orvin Davis with Fritz front steps of home of Violetta Davis Ryan, Harrisonburg, Virginia 1940s |
I love the expression on Orvin's face as he looks at little Fritz.
ReplyDeleteSweet, isn't it?
DeleteI wonder if they were dressed up to go somewhere special or if this was their every day dress. I find it amazing to see how much nicer many people dressed back "in the day." What did Orvin do for a living?
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they were dressed that way except they were visiting my grandaunt Violetta. Visiting clothes? Depending on when this photo was taken, Granddaddy owned a garage/car repair and he managed the family grocery store when they lived in Shenandoah, but when they moved to Portsmouth in the 1940s, he worked at the shipyard.
DeleteI think Orville and Fritz are 'man and dog' best friends. Lucille looks like she's about to roll her eyes with that 'for heaven sakes' look! Great photo and as Debi and Michelle suggested....putting on the Fritz...I mean Ritz...or just getting home from work and bridge luncheon. Folks did dress up more for everyday back then. It was a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI see that hot Texas sun didn't zap your punsterability during the big Saturday Flea Market at the Chicken Farm!
DeleteAh, Fritz. He is looking quite possessive of your grandmother. Wonder if he expected to be the center of attention?
ReplyDeleteOh no, nothing like that, I'm sure! I think my grandmother was rather partial to Fritz, according to stories. She once kicked a customer out of the Davis Grocery Store when the customer kicked Fritz.
DeleteWhat a fun picture! Fritz kind of reminds me of our family dog when I was a kid. He was part doberman I believe and was medium-sized. He was black with little brown markings over his eyes like Fritz seems to have. Do you know what kind of dog Fritz was?
ReplyDeleteAll I ever heard was that Fritz was the son of a circus dog, but that's not a breed. I would guess MUTT.
DeleteGreat photo...very different from your other dog photos :)
ReplyDeleteTGIF!
