Rosalind Mae Rucker |
Rosalind (spelled Rosalynd in the census) had graduated
from high school. She was a homemaker
raising two daughters, Janet (10) and Gloria (6).
Because the family is listed as living in Roanoke in 1935
rather than in “Same House,” it seems likely they bought the house sometime
after 1935. In fact, the city directories available on Ancestry indicate they
bought the house between 1936 and 1938. The 1937 directory is missing.
Digging a little deeper, I found on Trulia that the house
was built in 1937. It is described as
being a little over 1500 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 1 bath. This is probably the same house Rosalind and
Dalton lived in the rest of their lives.

This Christmas card shows the house as it looked before
1960 (the year Dalton died). It is not
much different today.
Old pictures fascinate me. Rosalind's eyes make me think that she has a story to tell. :)
ReplyDeletePretty eyes, aren't they?
DeleteYou know I'm fascinated with old photo! I love Rosalind's photograph, love everything about it. Her dress is so beautiful and I'm trying to figure out what kind of hair decoration she is wearing. What is she holding in her hand?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that's a fan in her hand. In her hair is a decorative comb. Now I'm wondering if it's the same one her mother is wearing in a photo from when she was much younger. I need to check with my sister who has that picture.
DeleteNope, not the same comb. Rosalind's is fancier. I always liked Rosalind. Her daughters, Janet and Gloria were pretty too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for combing your photos for the answer. Yes, she was a sweet lady, but I really don't remember her daughters.
DeleteGreat post Wendy (as usual)! The photo of Rosalind is so fun. Do you know when it was taken?
ReplyDeleteThanx Jana. I'm guessing this was a high school graduation picture, so that was around 1920-21ish. She.has that flapper look.
DeleteIt is so much fun to find out about family history. It is always so fascinating to see where your roots are.
ReplyDeleteIt really is fun, no matter what you find out. Thanks for visiting and commenting.
