Yes, that’s an amazingly full skirt. My great-aunt Velma Davis Woodring must have loved that dress because she showed it off in at least three different locations on or around the Harrisonburg Teachers College campus (now James Madison University).

Fantastic. Do you have any idea of what colour the material and the ribbons were?
ReplyDeleteI really don't but I'd love to know too. What do you think? Navy blue?
DeleteThat's a beautiful dress and I love the way she's holding out the full circle skirt.
ReplyDeleteI love how she braved the snow to show off that dress.
DeleteA true circle skirt.
ReplyDeleteTruly! My Christmas tree doesn't have as fine a skirt!
DeleteFantastic dress! I love the look on her face as she shows it off--so happy. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to imagine the girly chatter as they first conceived of the idea to hold out the skirt and then decided where to pose.
DeleteThat skirt must have been fun to twirl in. :)
ReplyDeleteNo doubt! I wonder why there isn't a picture of twirling - probably afraid it would be a blur.
DeletePerfect Dirty Dancing skirt!
ReplyDeleteYES! I have pictures of the girls in their Dirty Dancing skirts, but they're not twirling or holding them out, but wouldn't that have been the perfect companion piece?!
DeleteLove that full skirt!
ReplyDeleteYour posted photos of velma have inspired me to take more photos of me in my classroom. I have very few from all these years but I was lucky enough to take one at my first open house and post my daughter's first open house next to it. Perhaps in 90 years my greatgrandkids will look back at them :)
You must! Your greats and great-greats will appreciate seeing you as a real person engaging in the world, not just a face in a portrait.
