Josiah P. Davis was my great granduncle, brother to my
great-grandfather Walter Davis. He married
Elizabeth Frances Powell on November 30, 1879 in Rockingham County, Virginia.
They had ten children, but two died in infancy. He farmed in the county most of
his life. In his later years, he and his
wife lived with their daughter Annie Manspeaker in Martinsburg, West Virginia,
where they both died. They are buried in
Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton, Virginia.
Searching for Josiah in census records is
challenging. Sometimes he is listed as
Josiah and sometimes as Joseph. His wife
alternates between Lizzie and Fannie.
WOW ten kids... I guess you have all those names listed some where. Lots of big Davis families!
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact, I do have all 10.
Deletewell, please report...
DeleteUgh! Those changing names can be so hard for research! Josiah and Joseph, well they at least both start with J, but Lizzie and Fannie I don't get. I could see if it was Lizzie and Elizabeth or even Eliza. Challenging indeed!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Lizzie/Fannie swap threw me. I almost didn't recognize the family.
