Sepia Saturday challenges bloggers to share family
history through old photographs.
This week’s Sepia Saturday prompt immediately reminded me
of this photo:
That’s my dad in the middle. He was about 19 years old. He
had just joined the Coast Guard in 1946 and was stationed in Boston,
Massachusetts. I cannot say for sure if this photo was taken in Boston, but the
little bit of background resembles the Boston wharf near the Coast Guard Base.
His favorite things to do when he had free time in Boston
were to catch a Red Sox game and attend a concert by Arthur Fiedler and the
Boston Pops at the Hatch Shell.
Sadly I have no new story to tell about Daddy’s time in
the Coast Guard. If you want to read his story, look HERE and HERE.
Why don’t you and 2 of your friends make your way to
Sepia Saturday for more photos and stories of threesomes.

The background is certainly foggy enough to be Boston, and what a handsome young man your did is. He's so much younger than the other two...I wonder if they might be his recruiters? The U.S. National Archives has some coast guard records. Have you checked them for information?
ReplyDeleteYour Dad had a really Bean Town time, going to the Pops and seeing the Sox. Fun photo!
ReplyDeleteExcellent match to the meme today! And I also have Coast Guard connections...I always thought it was a bit of a safer branch of the armed forces...just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Boston helping to chaperone a group of high school students on a history trip - including my daughter, she and several of her friends went to a Boston Red Sox game in the rain and stood up to loudly chant one of their favorite Sonora High yells. She said everyone laughed so that was good, I guess! We used to watch the Boston Pops' televised 4th of July concert every year till it stopped being televised! While in Boston I would have loved to see the Hatch Shell where those concerts were held. I did see it, but only from the top of the John Hancock building.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo to go along with the prompt! I've only been to Boston once - we were there on July 4th and were able to watch the fireworks over the river. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteA perfect photo ... except THERE'S NO RAILING! WHAT IF THEY SLIP AND FALL OFF? DON"T THEY KNOW THAT'S DANGEROUS TO BE SO CLOSE TO THE ROOF EDGE? AND WHERE IS THE PERSON HOLDING THE CAMERA? IF THEY"RE NOT CAREFUL....
ReplyDeleteThat man to your dad's left must have been tall! That's neat that your dad took advantage of what Boston had to offer while he was there.
