Wordless Wednesday is a daily
prompt at Geneabloggers that asks family historians to create a post in which
the main focus is a photograph or image.
My uncle Orvin Jr. 1928 Yep - standing like all the Davises stood |
Orvin Jr. looks so sweet here. You couldn't tell by this picture that he would grow up to be such a big tease. And funny! After a big meal, he'd stretch and say, "Oh, I feel so unnecessary."
This is the 6th picture in a series of photos taken with
the Weeping Mulberry at my great-grandparents’ home in Shenandoah,
Virginia.
That weeping mulberry bush is now iconic - you should make it into your logo.
ReplyDeleteToo funny, Sally. I'm not sure how much more of this weeping mulberry I can stand.
DeleteWe are all getting familiar with the house across the street too! I also like the old truck/car in the background on this one!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, you're right. I'm not sure whether that car belonged to my great-grandfather Walter Davis or to my granduncle Woody Woodring (married to Velma Davis).
DeleteI love that Mulberry bush and I love that house across the street!
ReplyDeleteI took photos of my kids' first day of school on our porch each year until they left for college.
Happy Wednesday!

I started doing that, but after a few years the novelty wore off and I didn't keep it up. It would have been a nice thing to do though -- kind of like marking growth on a growth chart but better.
DeleteWendy, the neighborhood looks like a young neighborhood and the bush looks young, too. Do you know if they were? If so, do you happen to have photographs of the bush when it was older? I think I saw just one earlier....
ReplyDeleteMy great-grandfather built the house, and that one across the street - in fact, several across the street and all over town. They were in this house in the 1920 census, so the house was at least 8 years old but as much as 17 (they were at a different address in 1910). According to family lore, he bought the house plans from the Sears catalog - it's a Sears Craftsman.
DeleteThe bush looks young in this picture -- not sure if this is early in the season when the leaves are first coming out or if it's just a young bush. It looks much fuller in some other pictures.
What a funny thing for him to say following a meal! I wonder how that saying got started with him? It's so fun when people say and do such unique things and after they pass, it's often the absence of those things that make us miss them even more.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's no telling how he came up with that or any of the other goofy things, like nicknames for everybody. He used to call me "Dry Bones" because I was skinny. He called my sister "Stinky" -- I got the better deal.
