Wordless Wednesday is a daily
prompt at Geneabloggers that asks family historians to create a post in which
the main focus is a photograph or image.
This cabinet card in the photo album belonging to my
great grandmother Mary Frances Jollett Davis is yet another puzzle. He’s a cute little boy, but I don’t know who
it is.
The composition is what really puzzles me. It seems sloppy to have left a coat hanging
on the chair. Is that the backdrop
rolled up on the floor? Are those
curtains on the sides? What is going on?
All of that is strange. It's another mystery for you to solve!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Yeah, because I don't have enough to do.
DeleteA mystery but a handsome chap. Were there any members of your family who were experimenting with photography at that particular time perhaps? He does look a bit dressed up for an ordinary day!
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. Besides, I cropped out the frame which contains the name of the studio: Star Studio in Shenandoah, VA.
DeleteWell now, are we sure this is a BOY...sure is cute in that dress. Remember my great uncles in skirts and ruffles? Really, what is going on with that photographer. I like Sally's idea of practicing photographer...were there any in your family. Could be a clue to the boys name...surely it wasn't Sue.

Wedding Wednesday...Colonial Ancestors Marriage Stories
I think the sleeves say BOY. I doubt his name was Sue, but I can call him that until I uncover the truth. LOL
DeleteYes the background is interesting...especially since photos were not cheap...doesn't seem like they would pose him in that manner...unless they tried to take his picture and he didn't comply...so they went with whatever they could. Just a thought because I had a little girl who would not sit for photos :)
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting theory. He looks pretty calm but maybe he had just pitched a fit.
