Wordless Wednesday: Waiting on the Train

Wordless Wednesday is a daily prompt at Geneabloggers that asks family historians to create a post in which the main focus is a photograph or image.

Unidentified Woman from collection of Violetta Davis Ryan and Velma Davis Woodring

This photo of an unidentified woman was among many pictures passed down to me from my grandaunts Violetta Davis Ryan and Velma Davis Woodring.  She appears to be waiting for the train at Grove Hill.  I wonder if she was traveling north to Washington DC or simply making a quick trip to the nearby city of Harrisonburg to shop.  She’s certainly stylish with those button-up shoes and muff.

  1. A lovely photograph that evokes a sense of a small country railway station and, as you say, a stylish woman. . Who took the photograph? What prompted the photograph to be taken in such a setting? . You could weave a short story around that simple image -

  2. She does appear to be quite stylish and happy! Pretty smile, and I trust a bit excited as she's beginning her journey to somewhere!

  3. What a fun picture! Look at all of that snow. No wonder she needed that muff.
