Sentimental Sunday: Happy Easter!

Catching my sister hiding the eggs for me to find did not end well.  In those days we took the Easter egg hunt very seriously.  I bet no two kids enjoyed Easter as much as we did.  And it wasn’t about the candy.  Peeps and marshmallow eggs – no thanks!   Mary Jollette and I dyed and decorated eggs with gusto knowing we would enjoy hiding them from each other for days – even weeks – after the jelly beans were long gone.  Momma would finally draw the line and make us throw the eggs out after they had cracked and shed beyond hope.

Wendy - Those were the prettiest 2-tone pink shoes.
My purse matched the flower on the shoe.
Mary Jollette - well, what can I say?

My own daughters never cared for Easter.  They didn’t like the candy.  They didn’t want to dye eggs let alone look for any.  Where did I go wrong?

  4. Happy Easter!! As usual, I love seeing your pictures from the past. We also hid eggs for weeks and there was always one hidden one in the house forgotten until the smell led us to its hiding place.

I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating.

    1. We were all quite anal about that egg count so we never lost one.

Yesterday was beautiful at the lake, Paula. Today - eck.

  5. Easter in West Texas did and still does not make for great Egg Hunts as tumbleweeds, stickers and weeds do not match up to lush grass and beds of daffodils and tulips...not to mention the dangers of rattlers and tarantulas.

I'm with you on the matching bag and shoes. Yep, that was and still is my Easter Thing....the new Easter Dress which I nearly always made myself and of course the Bonnet. Love your Bows&Net Bonnet. Great photos. Happy Easter!!!

    1. Oh no -- I'd have to stick to indoor egg hunts.

      Happy Easter, Sue!

  6. These are the best pictures ... my how you two were styling in the last one. We always enjoyed Easter at our house, but we don't do anything around here anymore.

    Happy Easter!

    1. Thanks, Kathy! We always loved getting a new outfit and shoes for Easter. The Easter Bunny didn't come to my house this morning either.

  7. Such fun memories! Wow, your mom was quite understanding with you two hiding eggs for weeks. And it sounds like it was a serious hide-and-seek game for you guys.

We dyed eggs with our kids when they were younger. It was tradition, after all. And we had the occasional egg hunt, but nothing like you guys.

And you two looked quite sharp in your new Easter outfits.

    1. Hiding eggs was a big deal. We were probably trying to outdo each other by thinking of the most clever hiding spot. It looks like Mary Jollette was getting ready to put an egg behind the back cushion of the chair.

  8. Ah...the Easter egg hunt...a treasured activity in our household, too. Thankfully--though in the plastic-egg version--our daughter has learned to appreciate that tradition, too.

Happy Easter, Wendy, to you and all your family...even the anti-egg-hunting contingent ;)

    1. Oh funny Jacqi! Daughter #1 sent us some pictures today of herself and her fiance on an egg hunt with his children. It looks like she remembered at least a little bit from her childhood experiences.

  9. OMG, you posted those pictures! hahahaha. Thanks for the laughs. Atleast we didn't have PERMS that year. We must have stood our ground on no curls.

I loved that little suit I was wearing.

Maybe when you get back from the lake we can hide eggs. =)
